Diners dig deep as £4,000 pours in for flood victims

A Gibbon Bridge fundraising dinner hosted by Radio 2’s foodie correspondent Nigel Barden raised a phenomenal £4,000 for flood victims.

The bumper proceeds were donated to Whalley and District Lions which works tirelessly to help those most vulnerable in their communities.

Gillian Darbyshire, President of Whalley Lions Club, was presented with the charity payout by GB’s Janet and Edward.

Says Gillian: “We so thankful the Gibbon Bridge held this wonderful event to raise funds for the flood appeal.

“This amazing amount of money will be used to help more than 1500 residents in Whalley, Billington and the surrounding areas who were seriously affected by the floods and had to move out of their homes and businesses.”

After dinner speaker Nigel, a Lancastrian by birth, entertained more 110 guests with tales from his busy life as a food writer and broadcaster and his role as Chairman of Judges for the Great Taste Awards, Farm Shop & Deli Awards, World Cheese Awards and a keen advocate of British ingredients and artisan producers.

Gibbon Bridge owner Janet adds: “We are thrilled to have helped raise such a huge amount of money for the Whalley and District Lions and will continue to support local good causes whenever we can.”
